Sassafraz Restaurant wedding in Yorkville

Emeleigh and Patrick’s Sassafraz Restaurant wedding was the perfect start to my wedding season. I connected with Emeleigh last winter and she had such a kind and wonderful energy. So many of the clients I work with, we have an instant connection when we meet and talk for the first time.

I wasn’t sure what kind of day we would get with a February wedding; snow or slush, but in the end we had a bright dry winter day, which was amazing for taking photos. It has been a very disappointing winter for snow, as a photographer but also as a skier, haha.

We had beautiful light coming in through the windows at Archive Studios. Emeleigh and friends and family got ready at Archive Studios to start the day, we took lots of photos in the space with family and couple photos. Emeleigh’s makeup by Jeige Beauty, and special thank to my second photographer from the day, Robert. If you are looking for a place for getting ready photos on your wedding day, Archive is a beautiful location – great light, lots of space, many people overlook studios as an option rather than a small hotel room. It also allows you to flow right into portraits. We took some beautiful photos on the street outside the studio with a vintage car before heading to Sassafraz.

For this wedding we had a mix of film coverage throughout the day – some hybrid coverage can lend some depth and interest to the coverage from the day. I personally lean towards classic film colours when I edit anyway, film is the most timeless look, leaving the beautiful colours of nature and clean skin tones.

I’m so excited for the upcoming wedding season, each year I meet more interesting and wonderful couples and I continue to work on my craft. Hopefully getting better each year and learning new things. I haven’t had a Sassafraz Restaurant wedding in a few years, and it was great to be back in the space. It’s a lovely central spot for a wedding and it has great flow for guests.
