Muskoka wedding photographer – cottage engagement session

When I get to be a muskoka wedding photographer it’s always a treat, but this session is extra close to my heart because Geoff + Katie have a cottage on the same island as my family. Before their family owned it, I used to visit the family who lived there when I was a kid. There is something so wonderful about cottages, they never change that much. It’s wonderful to be able to step into their cottage and in so many ways it feels exactly the same as the one I used to visit when I was 6. This year it feels like our island is extra tied up in my life, it’s hard to explain how much it means to me as a place and an idea. A place where I let everything go and connect with my family and the parts of myself that haven’t changed year after year. My daughter loves it up there too, and it’s crazy how family portraits can look nearly identical, taken almost 30 years apart because the landscape is practically the same.

Geoff + Katie are getting married this September at the Lake Jo Club, and it will be a beautiful celebration. I shot there last September and it was a pretty magical night, even though I had a hard time concentrating on the road driving home because of the epic stars. September is coming, which means that the summer is coming to an end,  I always feel different by the end of a summer compared to the start, this year my summer has been one of my best in a few years and I am trying to enjoy every second of it.

If you have a cottage I’m always up for taking photos there, I know what special places they are and how much the photos mean. If you’re looking for a muskoka wedding photographer, please reach out!
